• Lab Manager


    Theolytics is an Oxford-based biotechnology company developing a pipeline of oncolytic viral therapeutics. The company will be rapidly expanding over the next 12-months to drive the development of research stage activities into clinical trial candidates.


    We are looking for a Lab Manager to join our small, dynamic team. The successful applicant will be: setting up, and ensuring the smooth running of our new labs in addition to supporting the scientific team.


    This position represents an excellent opportunity for someone looking to support the development of an early stage product through to clinical application. We are looking for a self-starter, happy to jump in when required in what will be an exciting work environment.


    • Day-to-day management of the laboratory;

    • Coordination of scientific and organisational work streams and processes;

    • Generating and maintaining databases for viruses/antibodies/plasmids;

    • Setting-up and running procurement systems;

    • Ordering supplies and equipment;

    • Maintaining equipment, and liaising with service engineers;

    • Ensuring all required Health and Safety policies are established and maintained;

    • Leading ethical approval applications;

    • Write SOP and protocols;

    • General administrative support; and

    • Training of new staff members.

    ​Candidate Profile

    Required skills and experience include:


    • A BSc or equivalent combination of training and experience in molecular biology or life sciences;

    • Procurement and lab management experience;

    • Knowledge of health and safety regulations in a laboratory environment;

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills;

    • Strong IT skills (including proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint), and comfort using shared drives and electronic lab book systems.


    Advantageous skills, experience and attributes include:


    • Knowledge of the Human Tissue Act and associated approval processes;

    • Approachable, with excellent communication and organisational skills;

    • A track record in managing projects and supervising junior employees;

    • Pharmaceutical and/or biotech industry experience;

    • Experience applying for ethical consent from regulatory bodies;

    • Initiative, and a willingness and propensity to take on responsibility;

    • A collaborative attitude with a flair for problem-solving; and

    • High motivation for, and commitment to, research on anticancer therapies and drug discovery.
