Cancer Biology & Therapeutic Development

Theolytics is a biotech company working to develop curative cancer therapies. We are a University of Oxford spin-out, backed by Oxford Sciences Innovation (OSI). Over the next 18 months, the team will be rapidly expanding as we develop our R&D activities into the clinic. 

 

We are looking for a Scientist for Translational Development to join our growing multidisciplinary and dynamic team. This position represents an excellent opportunity for someone looking to contribute to the development of an early stage oncolytic virus product through to clinical application. The successful applicant will be working in a fast paced environment, to design and execute experiments at the interface of cancer and virology and to contribute to strategic research and development goals.  

 

The candidate must be a proactive, organised individual and possess a range of technical expertise and knowledge in cancer biology, immunology or virology. We are looking for someone who is a self-starter, has excellent communication skills, can interact with a diverse group of scientific disciplines and is happy to jump in when required in what will be an exciting work environment.  

 

Activities

  • Design and execution of research and development projects; 

  • Prioritization of workloads and coordination of scientific work streams and processes;

  • Collation and presentation of research findings at internal meetings;

  • Contribution to a range of key strategic documents including: reports and presentations, patent applications, and regulatory filings;


 

Candidate Profile

Required skills and experience include:

  • A PhD in Cancer Biology, Virology, Immunology or similar discipline;

  • Cancer cell culture and characterisation of cell types by flow cytometry;

  • Evidence of impactful research experience as demonstrated by high-quality publications, patents and/or presentations at national/international conferences;

  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations in a laboratory environment;

  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills; and

  • Strong IT skills (including proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint), and comfort using shared drives. 

 

Advantageous skills, experience and attributes include:

  • Experience working with oncolytic viruses and adenoviruses;

  • Experience of primary human tumour handling, processing and characterisation of cell types by flow cytometry;

  • Pharmaceutical and/or biotech industry experience (will put candidates at an advantage);

  • Knowledge of cancer biology, and experience working with primary tumour cultures;

  • High motivation for, and commitment to, research on anticancer therapies and drug discovery;

  • Initiative, and a willingness and propensity to take on responsibility;

  • The ability to lead and energise others; 

  • Experience applying for ethical consent from regulatory bodies; and

  • A collaborative attitude with a flair for problem-solving.
