• Senior Scientist, Translational Development


    We are looking for a Senior Scientist for Translational Development to join our small, dynamic team. The successful applicant will be: designing and executing experiments at the interface of cancer and virology; taking an active role in training junior scientists; and leading the Theolytics Scientific team to deliver strategic research and development goals.

    This position represents an excellent opportunity for someone looking to take leadership responsibility in the development of an early stage product through to clinical application. We are looking for someone who is a self-starter, happy to jump in when required in what will be an exciting work environment.


    • Design and execution of research and development projects; 
    • Management and training of junior staff members; 
    • Collation and presentation of research findings at both internal and external meetings;
    • Coordination of scientific work streams and processes;
    • Contribution to a range of key strategic documents including: reports and presentations, patent applications, and regulatory filings; and
    • Day-to-day management of the laboratory.

    Candidate Profile

    Required skills and experience include:

    • A PhD in Virology, Cancer Biology, Molecular and Cell Biology, Immunology or similar discipline, with at least 2 years postdoctoral research experience;
    • A track record in managing projects and supervising junior employees;
    • Wide-ranging, hands-on experience in molecular biotechnology laboratory techniques;
    • Knowledge of health and safety regulations in a laboratory environment;
    • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills;
    • Strong IT skills (including proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint), and comfort using shared drives.

    Advantageous skills, experience and attributes include:

    • Pharmaceutical and/or biotech industry experience (will put candidates at a significant advantage);
    • Experience working with oncolytic viruses and adenoviruses;
    • Knowledge of cancer biology, and experience working with primary tumor cultures;
    • High motivation for, and commitment to, research on anticancer therapies and drug discovery;
    • Initiative, and a willingness and propensity to take on responsibility;
    • The ability to lead and energise others; 
    • A collaborative attitude with a flair for problem-solving.


    Compensation: £40,000 - 50,000 per annum

    Location: Oxford

    Contract: Full-time, fixed-term 2-year contract with the possibility of extension
