Senior Scientist:
Therapeutic Development

Our discovery platforms harness the power of viruses to systematically identify therapies optimised for a chosen patient population, with a focus on oncology. 

We are looking for a Senior Scientist of Therapeutic Development to join our team. This position represents an excellent opportunity for someone looking to take project management responsibility in the development of an early stage oncolytic virus product through to clinical application. The successful applicant will be working in a fast paced environment with a team of scientists to design and execute experiments at the interface of cancer and virology and to deliver strategic research and development goals.  

The candidate must be able to prioritise and manage multiple research activities and ideally possess a broad range of technical expertise and knowledge in virology, cancer biology and/or immunology. We are looking for someone who is a self-starter, has excellent communication skills, can interact with a diverse group of scientific disciplines and is happy to jump in when required in what will be an exciting work environment.  

Activities

  • Design and execute a range of in vitro and ex vivo assays to characterise and profile therapeutic candidates 

  • Develop and implement novel assays/approaches to improve current processes  

  • Make detailed observations, maintain accurate records, analyse data and rigorously interpret results 

  • Prioritisation of workloads and effective coordination of different project work streams

  • Provide supervision and mentorship to more junior scientists within the team 

  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with external parties
    Preparation of technical reports and presentations, and communicate findings at both internal and external meetings

  • Contribution to a range of key strategic documents including patent applications and regulatory filings.

Candidate Profile

Essential

  • A PhD in Cancer Biology, Virology, Immunology or similar discipline, with at least 2 years postdoctoral research or industry experience;

  • Experience in managing projects and supervising junior employees;

  • Proficient in the development, optimisation and execution of functional cellular assays, including the use of flow cytometry;

  • Competent in basic molecular biology/biochemistry techniques (eg. PCR, qPCR, ELISA)

  • Initiative, and a willingness and propensity to take on responsibility, and the ability to motivate others;

  • Strong team player who enjoys working in a highly collaborative environment, and is adaptable to evolving business needs;

  • Evidence of impactful research experience through publications, patents and/or presentations at national/international conferences;

  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills suitable for a diverse target audience;

  • Strong IT skills (including proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint), and comfort using shared drives.

Desirable 

  • Pharmaceutical and/or biotech industry experience;

  • Experience working with oncolytic viruses and/or adenoviruses;

  • Knowledge of cancer biology and immunotherapy;

  • Experience in handling and processing primary patient samples;

  • Experience with in vivo disease models and in vivo procedures;

  • Proficiency in recombinant  DNA techniques (eg. cloning strategies, plasmid construction and verification)

  • High motivation for, and commitment to, research on anticancer therapies and drug discovery;

  • A collaborative attitude with a flair for problem-solving.
